Wheat, Gluten and You - Are we eating the same grain? (Part 2)

By now, most of us heard about gluten-free foods and diet. Gluten-free labeling is found in many foods products, especially supermarkets, grocery and organic food outlets. It is becoming more noticeable and popular, especially amongst celiac patients. The question is, what's the story behind gluten-free products? 

Many years back, no one seen or heard of gluten-free foods or diet. But why is it booming and more people are aware of the devastating affects of wheat and gluten to the body and health. How much does the public know about the gluten-free labeling and minimum amount of gluten needed to trigger the immune response of an individual. How serious is it? 

WHO has an agency called CODEX. It set a definition of 20 parts per million (or less) for gluten-free products. What does this mean? Any food product which contains 19 parts per million of gluten,is qualified and can be label as gluten-free. Even though the specific food product is labeled gluten-free, but in fact, it still contain gluten, but extremely low amount. The '20 parts per million' definition is setup based on studies which relate to Celiac disease. Most of these reseach are based on 10 years ago, and not recent findings. It is a warning label for Celiac patients. In the U.S, if food products is found to contain 20 parts per million of gluten, it cannot be labeled as gluten-free according to FDA. For example, oats products could be in the category of 'low gluten' if it contains 21-100 parts per million. 

Now, in the world of immunologists, it is known to many scientists and doctors that how memory B cells response to the pathogenic invasion in the immune system. Let's take vaccination as example. When an individual is injected with a particular vaccine (let's say flu jab), the immune system immediately recognize a pathogen is detected inside the body. Think of the immune system as a 'Defense Forces', ranging from army and police forces, the job is to protect the host from foreign invasion which may cause damage or even death. When any pathogen (or flu vaccine) is found in the body, the 'Defense Forces' may call out one of the assembly line to attack the live virus from the vaccine. It could be 'marine corp, swat, air force, police force, etc. If one of these defense line is called, your immune system will assemble 'missiles' to shoot at the flu virus. It will keep producing the 'missiles' until all virus are destroyed or killed. Then, the assembly line is switched off, but is vigilant for the rest of your life, because if that same flu virus comes back again, or if you are exposed to it, the 'missiles' will be switched on, but at a much faster rate, rather then assembling it all over again. Wonder why you are required to have certain vaccination shot weeks and even months earlier before you travel to a 'red zone' country? It is because it would take a long time for your immune system to build an assembly line of 'missiles' to fight off the specific live virus in the vaccine. But, a booster vaccine shot is needed only couple of weeks or perhaps only days before a travel to another country such as Africa(which has weird disease or outbreak). These assembly line of 'missiles' is called Memory B cells.  

How would this be related to gluten ingestion? If I eat a piece of bread, how would it affect my immune system? Studies have shown that by ingesting a micro ultra low level of gluten (e.g, a bite of a white bread), it is enough to activate your memory B cells, which is assembled during your first encounter of eating wheat or gluten-coated food. In this case, can you have 19 parts per million, even though the food product is labeled as gluten-free? The answer is NO. Either you get pregnant, or not. No such thing is 'get a little bit pregnant'. 

In reality, not many people know about how the immune system would react to re-introduction of gluten, after a long lay off from eating this particular food substance.  If one had conducted a functional lab tests and found that the antibodies to gluten have cleared from your bloodstream, and if that person think of breaking that gluten-free diet after months of restriction, it would be a bad idea. Conventional doctors or dietitians would tell you it's fine if you have few servings of bread or cookies once in a while, but long list of new medical literatures tell us otherwise.

The thing is, most conventional doctors, dietitians and nutritionists have a huge gap with majority of clinical nutritionists, naturopathic doctors, and functional medicinal practitioners. In terms of realizing the latest discovery and scientific literature about diet, nutrition, toxicity, and of course, the whole topic about just beyond calories and chasing the symptoms. Both professionals are in different 'clustered' world, the assessment, testing, diagnosis and treatment as well as protocols are almost entirely different.

Is mammogram effective and safe for breast screening?

Breast cancer, is the no.1 cause of death of all cancers for women. It is arguably the most feared disease by all female population. Breast cancer awareness, is often made public for regular screening. It is believed that regular mammograms could detect early stages of breast cancer or perhaps even prevent it? A controversial form of diagnosis for breasts, and how much do the population know about the downside of mammogram?

Recent NBC news, discussed a short clip about how mammogram benefits are oversold, and harms have been downplayed. The new study conducted by Harvard Medical School analysed 50 years of data from mammograms performed on female adults. It was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, April 2014. The study found that while mammograms decreased a woman's risk of dying from breast cancer by an average of 19%, it is the same amount of 19% of the cancers, which is not life threatening, and treatment is not necessary. Although the study did not revealed or discussed about the other risks of undergoing mammograms, female adults should weigh the 'benefits' (if there is), and risks of performing this type of radiation-based screening. 

In another study, 2011 meta-analysis by the Cochrane Database of Systemic Reviews, mammography breast cancer screening led to 30 percent overdiagnosis and overtreatment, which equates to an absolute risk increase of 0.5 percent. Meanwhile, according to National Cancer Institute, screening mammograms miss up to 20-40% of detection, especially for women with dense breasts tissues.  An article by British Medical Journal (http://www.bmj.com/content/345/bmj.e5132 ) revealed how Susan G Komen For the Cure, world’s largest breast cancer organization, is using misleading stats to persuade women to undergo mammograms. Could this be the 'snowballing' of global promotion of mammogram screening to female adults? 

From my honest point of view, every women should realize about other alternatives of breast sceening. A safer yet more effective screening methods for individuals, such as thermography and ultrasound. An even wiser approach to preventing breast cancer, diet, nutrition and lifestyle are a much powerful way to lower the risk of this specific type of cancer. Of course, there are various factors of contributing to the increased risks of breast cancer, to name a few, deficiency in iodine, high concentration of parabens from exposure to skin care products and toiletries, high levels of estrogens, deficiency in Vitamin A and D, EMF exposure, birth control pills, synthetic hormones, and etc.

'Weight Loss Shakes & Supplements' - The hidden toxins and chemicals!

Weight loss in a bottle. Sounds good ain't it? Forget about your diet and eating real foods, as long as you consume these so called weight loss/weight management products, you will lose weight. From diet pills to so called fat burners, and weight loss shakes to metabolism stimulator products, how much truth is revealed to the consumers or the public, and the consequences of long term consumption. How many buyers actually realize what's really inside the ingredients of these products? Possible 1 out of every 1000 buyers? 

Before we even get started, let's be honest. How many of us still inherit the wisdom of our ancestors? Remember our great grandparents guidance and advise of how to eat, move and be healthy? How many amongst us still eating real whole foods? In reality, not many, perhaps less then 0.1% of population. We have been hardwired and brainwashed by the media and supplements industry to depend on so called weight loss formulas or products. We have been strayed off course of what our ancestors been eating for countless generations to thrive and evolved to be reproductively healthy. Did our ancestors need weight loss shakes or fat burners to stay lean and healthy? Forget about whichever Degree or PhD education you achieved and declared yourself to be an 'educated' professional. If you lose your own common sense, you are in big trouble with your own life management, including health! A more important question, "Am I fat because deficiency of weight loss products? Or perhaps "Am I fat because deficiency in slimming center treatment?" Even better, "Am I fat because I have deficiency in participating marathon?"

As we are living in a society of wanting a quick fix for almost everything in life, health and weight management are no exception. Most of us want 'miracle pill' or 'weight loss in a bottle' solution. Eat anything we want, and pop those pills or gulp down those shakes, we will lose weight! Sounds awesome ain't it? Tons of supplement companies sell their products having claimed that its endorsed or approved by so called doctor who and who, or by this dietitian or that nutritionist. The marketing strategies are nothing less then 'vault-proof', these guys know exactly how to promote and sell their products to consumers who desperately need help to lose weight or generally for the sake of improving health or nutrition requirements. 

Ask yourself this question. Did our healthy yet lean ancestors need all these weight loss products to stay in shape and healthy? Do they need to be told what to eat, or do they even know what a calorie is? The answer is of course a big NO. From soy formulated shakes to excitotoxins loaded meal replacement, I will reveal the truth about some of these weight loss products being sold in the market to people like us. It's time people realize the actual cause of weight gain, eating real whole foods is essential to sustaining life, maintain health and bodily functions, the body recognize what's found in nature, and not lab made toxins loaded processed food products. 







Most people tend to focus almost entirely on what's advertised on the product box or package. Weight loss, low fat, healthy nutrition, etc. The key here, is to be an expert of reading ingredients label. How could your body be healthy and maintain proper digestion if you are ingesting a long list of toxins and chemicals loaded beverage? Looking at the ingredient list itself gave me a headache! Apart from highly estrogenic toxic protein isolate, there are multiple excitotoxins in this product. Having canola oil in your shakes? That's just insane! 




This is one of the products of the very popular so called weight loss brand in Singapore, Malaysia and even various countries. Tons of 'good looking' female promoters are promoting and selling the company products claiming it is not only for losing weight, but also improving health. Well well, that's what all supplements companies said right? For whoever bought this product before, you will know even with the brand name is censored in the photo. Apart from fructose (chronic poison), having corn oil and artificial flavors definitely nothing close to being healthy at all. meanwhile, the minerals and vitamins stated in the ingredient list are synthetically made in the laboratory, and not from organic whole foods. 







Another product, same company, excitotoxins loaded so called meal replacement product. First of all,almost all grain-based flour are high glycemic and spike blood sugar levels. Maltodextrin and autolyzed yeast extract have 98% of MSG glutamic affect and can cause havoc in the body. Anti-caking agent in your meal? I'll let you do the math, Mr. degree graduate. 







A worldwide huge company, with well-established household name. Tons of my clients and friends were asking me about A***Y products. I've reviewed before couple times this company's supplement products, the list of chemicals and toxins are as long as a book. Highly toxic Acesulfame potassium (Aspartame) and sucralose in your meal replacement? That's why you can't stop consuming this beverage. I seriously do not understand why you would allow processed soy ingredient in your food or supplement product, unless you a are on a journey to get man-boobs (for a guy) or mess up your thyroid and reproductive system.






This company products are sold in almost every industrialized nation. there are more toxins then actual natural real food ingredient. Color dyes in your supplement? Artificial dyes (especially no 5 & 6) have been shown in studies to link with pulmonary problems such as asthma and hyperactivity in children. These dyes have been banned in countries such as Norway and Austria and are derived from petroleum and used as disel fuel, gasoline and tar. Imagine that in your body. 







What can I say? Four different artificial dyes in a bottle of so called fat-burner product. There are more synthetic chemicals then natural whole foods ingredients in this bottle. There is much cheaper, safer and effective way to trigger the body to go into ketosis and burn fat efficiently.
