HockBurn & Coccidiosis - Sick Nasty Chickens!

Today, I'm going to blog about chickens, particularly commercially raised chickens. I know most people buy chickens from supermarkets, fresh markets and minority from the farmers directly. What about these so called 'fresh chickens'? It's often labeled in supermarkets, hypermarkets, grocery outlets and even called 'Ayam Kampung' in fresh markets as fresh free range chickens. The thing is, how much truth is behind all the labeling from these sellers?

I remember that I used to buy so called free range @ ayam kampung in fresh market around my neighborhood a few years back. After a few weeks of investing on so called free range chickens from the fresh market, I started to notice something fishy and was disappointed on what I discovered.  What I found, was a brown burn marks on the legs of the chicken. First thing that hit me, hockburn! Damn it! Isn't these chickens are suppose to be breed and raised on non commercial farms? Could I have missed the last batches of chickens I bought months back? Or maybe I was unlucky not to have purchased the 'uninfected' chickens?

Now, what is hockburn? Well, it is a common disease where chickens squat on dirty wet litter consist of ammonia and uric acid. The waste of other birds(chickens) burn the skin of the legs and joints as well. This usually occurs in commercial farming or broiler farms where hundreds and thousands of large flock of chickens are raised with poor, congested, dirty and disease infested environment. So, how would you know if you are really buying a free range organically raised chickens? Look out for hockburns on the lower extremities of the chicken, but it may be found on the breast of the chicken as well. Once you found hockburn on that brand of the chicken sold, or from the same farmer, it is time to buy from a different seller.

How about coccidiosis? It is a parasitic disease which largely affect animals especially poultry. The parasite lives and multiply in the intestinal tract of the chickens and causes tissue damage, poor digestion, dehydration and blood loss. If you want to know more about this parasitic disease, go google yourself and enjoy a good read. Below are also some of the medical research and studies which relates to both hockburn and coccidiosis.

Always remember, if you eat sick animals, you will be as sick as these poor little living species. There is no health in eating unhealthy animals. Rest in peace, those poor obese chickens with skinny weak legs, being fed with pesticides contaminated foods, pumped with antibiotics and synthetic growth hormones.

Whey Protein - How to choose?

Thought of putting up another post about protein supplements/powders. It seemed that vast majority of fitness enthusiasts, gym freaks or bodybuilders still not sure which protein powders are ideal, safe and beneficial to their health and performance. With so many commercial protein brands available and sold in the market today, most consumers tend to spend their money on the 'popular' protein supplement brands such as MuscleTech, Optimum Nutrition, etc. Question is, how do you which brand is relatively safe and clean, high quality and beneficial to your health and performance?

Now, for those who play sports, regular gym freaks, endurance athletes, martial artists and bodybuilders, most of these group of fitness enthusiasts are very likely to consume some sort of protein supplements or powders. The common ones are whey protein, casein protein and soy protein. Which ones are better? Well, it depends on what is your goal and what do you want to achieve. If you aim for health benefits and muscle growth as well as performance, whey is an ideal source of protein. But, of course, go for 100% clean high quality non denatured whey protein from free range cows without contamination of hormones, pesticides and antibiotics. Meaning, read the labels, read the ingredient list. These brands which I recommend, have only 1 ingredient (except PRO Matrix Wicked Whey), which is 100% whey/hemp protein and nothing else.

Have you ever thought why your commercial protein powders taste so delicious? Again, read the ingredient lists. If it has more then 3 ingredients, it is likely to be loaded with toxic substances. There are tons of commercial protein brands with more then 10 different ingredients. It's pretty simple and with a bit of common sense, you will be able to get it right.

What if you don't have the money or budget to purchase protein powders to supplement your muscle growth  or performance? No problem at all! Don't worry about it. Our lean, muscular and explosively strong ancestors aka caveman did not have protein powders nor protein bars. Did they gulp down whey protein drinks or snack on protein bars? Answer is obviously NO. How do you then maintain a lean muscular body composition? It's easy. How did our thousands and thousands of years primal ancestors evolved and survived being so strong and muscular? That's your answer right there. EAT REAL FOODS! Primarily organically grown whole foods and meats including seafoods. You don't need to stuff yourself one whole chicken for lunch to gain lean muscle mass or one pound of beef steak for dinner in order to build ripped muscles. Eat with satiety, clean protein sources from free range organic meats and eggs, fresh seafoods and ensure your raw organic vegetables are part of your diet too. Muscle growth CANNOT be efficiently accomplished by just ingestion of protein alone. You need an ideal amount of healthy fats which includes saturated fats and fibre to ensure maximum results. Clean filtered water is a vital component to muscle building and repair as well, and ensure at least half your body weight of water consumption daily.

Anyhow, below are some of the key points to look out for while choosing an ideal safer high quality protein sources and products.

- Ideally protein sources from cows which grazes on pastures without contamination of pesticides, herbicides or fungicides.
- Undenatured protein
- Choose whey concentrate, instead of isolate.
- Ensure no artificial flavors, colors and sweeteners.
- Ensure no preservatives or excitotoxins such as MSG, calcium caseinate, yeast extract, etc.
- Ensure no sugars are added such as fructose, high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, sucrose, etc.
- Ensure no antibiotics nor synthetic hormones.
- Ensure no soy, non-GMO and gluten free. Avoid soy based protein at all cost!

An ideal source of whey protein, unlike most commercial whey protein powders which are loaded with toxic ingredients such as aspartame, sucralose and asulfame-K, MSG, sugars etc.

Undenatured protein, 100% whey from pastures of New Zealand and Australia, no other ingredients.

A better choice of whey protein, no pesticides nor herbicides, low GI, no artificial flavors nor sweeteners,  no soy, gluten free and non-GMO. It has only organic cocoa and xylitol as other ingredients.

   100% Organic Raw Hemp

100% organic whey protein. No added  ingredients.

Natural Flavors = Beaver's Anal Glands Discharge!

Yummy...isn't it? Those vanilla ice-cream or puddings which you enjoyed again and again and again countless times. Years of eating ice-creams, desserts, jellies, sweets, and other packaged food products, have you ever wondered what is in the so called 'natural flavors' ingredient? It sounded so NATURAL after all isn't it? And besides, it taste so good.

Today, I'm sharing with all of you the truth about 'natural flavors' ingredient found in some of the 'delicious' foods you eat throughout your lifespan. It's called Castoreum! Yes, it nasty! What is it? It's a secretion of beaver's anal glands! Still going for that vanilla or raspberry ice cream or puddings? Imagine eating or applying something which is coming out from beaver's ASS? Oh god, that's just disguting!

Castoreum, is an ingredient used in food products including some of the desserts such as puddings, sweets, jellies, ice-creams, package food products, supplements, and even cosmetics. skin care products and certain oils. Why is it used in these products? I seriously have no idea! Let's just say that it is one of those 'top secrets' which food industries DO NOT want the public and consumers to know about. Oh yeah, they are protected by the 'trade secret laws'. Under FDA rules, companies don't need to include castoreum on the ingredients list, and they can just call it 'natural flavoring'. Ask yourself, if you are the food manufacturer, would you want consumers to know about it? There you go, that's your answer.

Now, how would you know if that product contains castoreum? It's simple, look out for 'natural flavors' in the ingredient list before you pay at the cashier. Everytime before you eat that ice-cream or sweets with so called 'natural flavors', think of beaver's anal glands! It's one of the most sickening food ingredient ever found and unknown to most people out there. I remember Jamie Oliver in one of David Letterman's interview saying "It taste sooooo goooood" in a sarcastic manner.
