Thought of putting up another post about protein supplements/powders. It seemed that vast majority of fitness enthusiasts, gym freaks or bodybuilders still not sure which protein powders are ideal, safe and beneficial to their health and performance. With so many commercial protein brands available and sold in the market today, most consumers tend to spend their money on the 'popular' protein supplement brands such as MuscleTech, Optimum Nutrition, etc. Question is, how do you which brand is relatively safe and clean, high quality and beneficial to your health and performance?
Now, for those who play sports, regular gym freaks, endurance athletes, martial artists and bodybuilders, most of these group of fitness enthusiasts are very likely to consume some sort of protein supplements or powders. The common ones are whey protein, casein protein and soy protein. Which ones are better? Well, it depends on what is your goal and what do you want to achieve. If you aim for health benefits and muscle growth as well as performance, whey is an ideal source of protein. But, of course, go for 100% clean high quality non denatured whey protein from free range cows without contamination of hormones, pesticides and antibiotics. Meaning, read the labels, read the ingredient list. These brands which I recommend, have only 1 ingredient (except PRO Matrix Wicked Whey), which is 100% whey/hemp protein and nothing else.
Have you ever thought why your commercial protein powders taste so delicious? Again, read the ingredient lists. If it has more then 3 ingredients, it is likely to be loaded with toxic substances. There are tons of commercial protein brands with more then 10 different ingredients. It's pretty simple and with a bit of common sense, you will be able to get it right.
What if you don't have the money or budget to purchase protein powders to supplement your muscle growth or performance? No problem at all! Don't worry about it. Our lean, muscular and explosively strong ancestors aka caveman did not have protein powders nor protein bars. Did they gulp down whey protein drinks or snack on protein bars? Answer is obviously NO. How do you then maintain a lean muscular body composition? It's easy. How did our thousands and thousands of years primal ancestors evolved and survived being so strong and muscular? That's your answer right there. EAT REAL FOODS! Primarily organically grown whole foods and meats including seafoods. You don't need to stuff yourself one whole chicken for lunch to gain lean muscle mass or one pound of beef steak for dinner in order to build ripped muscles. Eat with satiety, clean protein sources from free range organic meats and eggs, fresh seafoods and ensure your raw organic vegetables are part of your diet too. Muscle growth CANNOT be efficiently accomplished by just ingestion of protein alone. You need an ideal amount of healthy fats which includes saturated fats and fibre to ensure maximum results. Clean filtered water is a vital component to muscle building and repair as well, and ensure at least half your body weight of water consumption daily.
Anyhow, below are some of the key points to look out for while choosing an ideal safer high quality protein sources and products.
- Ideally protein sources from cows which grazes on pastures without contamination of pesticides, herbicides or fungicides.
- Undenatured protein
- Choose whey concentrate, instead of isolate.
- Ensure no artificial flavors, colors and sweeteners.
- Ensure no preservatives or excitotoxins such as MSG, calcium caseinate, yeast extract, etc.
- Ensure no sugars are added such as fructose, high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, sucrose, etc.
- Ensure no antibiotics nor synthetic hormones.
- Ensure no soy, non-GMO and gluten free. Avoid soy based protein at all cost!

Whey for muscle building? Answer is true, but it also depends on your goal and always remember, try to consume only undenatured organic whey protein supplement if you need to, and ideally eating free range organic animal based products should be your first choice. It should be free of pesticides, synthetic hormones, antibiotics, artifical chemicals, etc.
ReplyDeleteWhey protein is beneficial and provide support for muscle building, but for optimal muscle building, there are much more then just protein. Our body needs at least half your own body weight of clean high quality water, fibre, healthy fats and all the essentials minerals.
ReplyDeleteOverdosing yourself with whey protein powder supplement WILL not enable optimal muscle building, in fact, most bodybuilders or bodybuilding enthusiasts' guts are highly toxic, due to most commercial protein powder supplements are loaded with sugars, chemicals and toxins.
